About a week before Cammeron planned on proposing to Kelsey (my sis-in-law), he called me and asked if I’d be willing to photograph the proposal. “Ummm…hell yes! Count me in and thank you very much!” They had been dating for almost 8 years and he planned everything to happen on their 8th anniversary. He had it all set for Victoria Beach, CA and the Pirate Tower. If you haven’t been there, you are definitely missing out. It is the coolest spot ever! You can even sit on the steps of the tower!
Okay, so we planned it for 5:15. I was set to arrive at 4:45 so that I could scope it out and hide from sight. Cammeron sent me a text and told me that Kelsey was getting antsy and wanted to leave the room. They were heading down to the beach. Great! Now I’d have to be extra sneaky! I started to climb the rocks and then wham! I fell and skinned my knee, but saved my camera! As I got closer to the tower, I could see Kelsey’s face and thought she for sure saw me, but he picked her up and turned her slightly once he saw me. He bent down and started fumbling with his pant leg. That’s when I made my move. I walked around to get a side view. He was staring up at her with such a look. I wish I could have heard what he was saying, but that was their special moment. I was already intruding enough! I guess he was very nervous because he just handed her the ring box instead of putting the ring on her finger! She looked up at the sky with tears running down her face and then she spotted me and laughed. I was, of course, shaking and crying the entire time. It was such a special thing to be a part of. They hugged and smooched for a bit and took the necessary selfie. Ha!
We spent the next 15 minutes taking some “engagement pictures” before the tide tried to wash us away. She also made him put the ring on her finger and I caught some shots of that so she’d have it. This experience is something I will never forget. I am so incredibly happy for them and can’t wait for their wedding and everything to come.
